Scientific and Technological Advanced Research (S.T.A.R.) Laboratories is a scientific research organization that spans the globe.
The Gotham City division of S.T.A.R. Labs specialises in Botanical research. The labs were headed by Doctor Henry Simmons; who had been Director of Botanical Research for twenty years and had been assisted by Dr Alisa Adams for five years and three months.
Learning of the lab's research into forest re-foliants, Poison Ivy gained employment at the labs as Director of Biochemical Research "Dr Paula Irving". After firing Dr Simmons and Alisa as a gesture of power, Ivy attempted to personally continue his research into developing plant hybrids. However, Alisa deduced her identity and attempted to imprison her only to be overpowered.
Impressed by Alisa's ability, Ivy opted to have Alisa serve as an assistant rather than kill her.
Unfortunately, Ivy learned that the source of Dr Simmons' re-foliant experiments were from an alien being who intended to take over the planet with his alien hybrids.
