The Suit of Sorrows of New Earth was originally created in 1190 during the Crusades, it is said that the suit is able to impart strength and speed to those who wear it, but it will destroy anyone who is not pure.
Initially given to Sir Geoffrey De Cantonna as a gift. The suit corrupted and drove him insane, resulting in the knight slaughtering several hundred people in a remote Alpine valley. To protect the knight’s reputation, the kingdom covered-up the incident, claiming that the Moors were responsible for the massacre.
The Suit was retrieved by the Order of Purity, a splinter sect of the Order of St. Dumas, and used by their Azraels until it was later stolen, along with the Sword of Salvation, by Ra's al Ghul, a long time rival of the Order of St. Dumas.
Years later, the armor was bestowed upon Bruce Wayne by Talia al Ghul as a gift, and although it made him significantly stronger and faster, he was forced to stop using it when he began to believe it was somehow corrupting him and making him more violent. However, Batman was unable to bring himself to destroy the artifact, and instead chose to store it on display in the Batcave. After the attack by Bat Glove against the Bat Family and during Bruce Wayne's subsequent capture by Darkseid during the Final Crisis, the suit was stolen from the Batcave. Reappearing in the possession of the new Azrael of the Order of St. Dumas.
