Brave and the Bold #28 (March, 1960)

Brief:
The Secret Sanctuary was the name given to a large cave deep inside a mountain base in Happy Harbor, Rhode Island.
Shortly after the Appellaxian invasion, the newly formed Justice League of America decided to use the cave as their secret headquarters. They maintained their hidden base for many years until the financial backing of Bruce Wayne enabled the team to establish a satellite in geosynchronous orbit above the Earth.
The cave remained empty for many years until an abandoned alien entity found its way inside and began using it as a nest. Members of both the original Justice League as well as the Detroit League worked together to remove this cumbersome entity from their former headquarters.

Years later, the teen heroes known as Young Justice established the Secret Sanctuary as their own base of operations until the team's deformation, calling it the "Justice Cave". During their time within the cave, the team came under fire by public representatives and the sanctuary was invaded and destroyed by a team known as the "Point Men"; who were in turn controlled by The Agenda. Following the sanctuary's rebuilding, a secondary Young Justice team (Lagoon Boy, Beast Boy, Batgirl, Flamebird and Captain Marvel Junior) temporarily operated within the cave until the original team roster returned to duty. However, the team instead took to operating from the Hamilton Lodge and Resort, where they had resided during their time off-duty, and never returned to operations from within the Sanctuary.

When the moon-based Watchtower was destroyed by Superboy-Prime in the Infinite Crisis, the remainder of the deformed Justice League temporarily decamped to the Secret Sanctuary.
25 weeks after the Infinite Crisis, Martian Manhunter created a tribute to the fallen members of the JLA in the Secret Sanctuary.

Trivia[]

  • When their brownstone headquarters were destroyed in a battle with an army of mercenary supercriminals, the Justice Society borrowed the Sanctuary. However, they were asked to move out swiftly.
