Since the arrival of superheroes into the public limelight, various parties have sought to capitalize on their public image and symbol for varying purposes from charity and propaganda to influence and pure financial gain.

The heroes themselves allow the exploitation of their image for various purposes; Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Flash (Jay Garrick) and other World War 2 heroes allowed their images to be used to aid in pro-Allied Nations propaganda, Superman and Wonder Woman decree that a percentage of the money earned from their respective images and symbols is donated to charity, Booster Gold sells his image and gains indorsements for personal financial gain, while Batman's symbol has become linked directly to Gotham as a tourism trade for the city.

  • Wonder Woman and Black Canary (Dinah Lance) have both written and published books (Reflections: A Collection of Essays and Speeches and My Mother's Daughter respectively).
